Eben though a few of the song lyrics seem a little more upbeat, and the instrumentation definitely sounds happier (than previous efforts), you still get the feel that things are shiny in Elliott’s life. XO is a decent album, but no higher than an “average Elliott Smith release” for me. Still, an average Elliott LP is better than most of the stuff out there.
