There was an “awkward” transition period between At the Drive-In and The Mars Volta that most people overlook; De Facto. The normal culprits, Omar and Cedric, were at the helm, but eventual Mars Volta long-time keyboardist Ikey Owens was also thrown into the De Facto fold. The sounds are dub, but to summarize it in such a blanketing term does it injustice. Latin American influences combined with jazz produce such sweet sounds from start to finish.
